What is the Journal to the Self?

The Journal to the Self® Workshop is a proven method of keeping a journal for personal growth and enhancing different areas of your life.

It was created in 1985 by my mentor Kathleen (Kay) Adams, Director of the Center for Journal Therapy, and a well-known pioneer and expert in writing therapy.

More than 100,000 people around the globe have learned this easy, effective, empowering model of journal-keeping through the Journal to the Self method and now, as a Journal to the Self Certified instructor, I get to share it with you!

The journal is like the moon, emitting a magnetic tug that draws information from your subconscious and unconscious minds and brings it to the surface, where you can work at a conscious level.

Who is the Journal to the Self for?

If you’re new to journaling and often unsure how to start or what to write about, the JTTS will provide you with bite-sized techniques and a step-by-step guided journey free of overwhelming information.

Do you journal sporadically, likely when you feel stuck, sad, or angry? The JTTS will encourage you to develop a more consistent and positive practice that feels rewarding, not forced.

About Ana Juma

I’m the author of the poetry book Back to Earth and the founder of Prophsee, an independent book publishing house that brings together a community of creative minds to express themselves through journaling experiences.

Keeping a diary from a tender age has encouraged me to explore writing as a vehicle of self-discovery, expression, and healing. What started as a tool to make sense of my own emotional whirlwinds has become my full-time mission – supporting you to find answers between the pages.

Today, I live in my hometown Lisbon writing stories out of everyday moments, hosting journaling sessions, making YouTube videos, and creating the journaling tools you find at Prophsee.

The Journal to the Self® Workshop is for anyone ready to explore journaling as a path to self-awareness, growth, and life balance. Whether you’re a complete beginner or have prior journaling experience, this course meets you where you are. The invitation is to show up with curiosity and an open mind as you explore the depths of you.

To fully participate in this online class, you’ll need a journal, a pen/pencil, and a willingness to explore your inner world through writing. That’s all!

That’s perfectly fine! While many enjoy the tactile experience of writing by hand, you’re welcome to use a digital device if it suits you better. The key is finding what makes your journaling practice most comfortable and effective.
